Favorite Books of our Past
Though some of you may not take pleasure in reading as much as others, I am willing to bet that there is at least one book you have come across in your lifetime that you truly enjoyed. One of my favorite books is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (there are two copies of it on the bookshelves in my classroom). It is about a young depressed girl that is an outcast at school and home. You know that something happened to cause the girl to become depressed, but it is not until the end that you are able to put all of the clues together and understand what happened. When I first read Speak I was working on my teaching degree. At the time I strongly disliked reading! I had been forced to read too many books in high school and college that were of little to no interest to me. Speak was the first book I had come across in a LONG time that I found both interesting and relatable. It reminded me of the long lost love for books that I had as a child. After Speak I found more books written in a similar style and about topics I found interesting. I now LOVE reading! If it weren't for Speak, I may have never started reading for pleasure again.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books that i have read are because of win dixie. the book is about a girl who finds a dog in a store. she claims the dog is hers and takes it home. her dad does not want her to keep the dog but she ends up being able to keep it. i enjoyed this book because it was fun to read and it really kept me intrested. i was never really into reading, but after i read because of win dixie i got more into books and more into reading.

one of my favorite books is half magic, its aboutt these kids thatt get granted these magic powerss but only know how to use half of them. and though out the storyy they incounter different problemss and there magic only helps them half the time, or it only workss half wayy.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books that I read in 5th grade is Shoeless Joe and Me by Danny Gutman. That book was one of the only books I truly enjoyed. I have read many books that I just read because I had to, but this book caught my attention. It was about a young boy who used baseball cards to travel back in time to meet the players on the baseball card. I really thought tat thiss book was special because it was about sports and I could really relate to that.

It become so drastic that she moves and leaves her 2 bestfriends behind.The reason i like this book so much was becasue this is everyday material. People can get made fun of and teased everyday

ReplyDeleteone of my favorite book fruits basket. it is about a teenage girl whos mother had just passed away and since she didnt want to be a burden on family or friends she baegan living in the woods. then she found a house in which a schoolmate(yuki somha) lived, then she found out that the whole sohma family had a curse, if they came under a great deal of stress or hugged a member of the oppisite gender they would tranceform into an animal of the zodiac. when i first read this book i thought it was dumb and at the time i hated reading. but now i love reading! fantasy is now my favorite type of book
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book that I've read is The Boy From the Basement. I'm not sure who the author was. It was about a little kid who was abused by his father. His mother couldn't do anything because if she tried to help her son her husband would hit her too. The little kid got very little food and water. He had to go upstairs and make himself a PB&J when everyones asleep. If he gets caught he gets beat. The little kid must stay in the basement all the time because he knocked over a glass or something when he was little. He was in there for years. One day he gets stuck outside and he was scared because he didn't know what anything was. Not even grass. He gets sick with a fever and passes out on the side of the road. Someone picks him up and takes him to the hospital. In the end he gets a new home with a new brother and he finally isnt scared of going outside. I loved this book because it was inspiring to me. It was nice to be able to choose a book that I wanted to read for once. That book changed my life forever.

ReplyDeleteThe Gary Paulson books are good books. They're my favorite. I like reading now because of it.
One of my favorite books is Twilight by Stephanie Myer, it is about a girl(Bella) who moves to Forks, Washington and meets a boy named Edward, he's a vampire, they fall in love and get married out of highschool. I never really liked reading until i started reading the Twilight saga, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Once I start reading a book I really enjoy I dont want to put it down.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite series of books was harry potter. These books, which I am currently re-reading, are special to me because they are the first books that actually got me hooked on reading. I found these books intresring and detailed. They were the first books that I actually enjoyed reading, and was not forced to read. After reading the whole series i started reading more and more books, unil it was nearly impossible to get my attention while i was engrossed in a book, Which is what im like now. All thanks to that one good series, I have read alot more than I thouhgt I would have liked to and find the experience of reading pleasurable and relaxing instead of tedious and boring as i did years ago.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince is my favorite book because the story has lot of fiction and they went on alot of journeys that was very exciting.There was a lot of twists to the story some people died that i didnt know would.That is why this is my favorite book
ReplyDeletei have never really enjoyed reading, or infact reading for fun. it was never really something interesting/fun thing to do in my spare time, this summer my mother started makeing me read more and more. i was reading the book "twilight." i got very bored very fast, so i stoped for a while, then i found an amazing book that only took me a few days to read. "the child called it," i was truely one of the best books i have ever read. the book was about child abuse. the book was about this little boy who had a mom that abused him almost everyday for things that he didnt even do, but it wasnt allways like that. they were once a happy family untill something happend between his mother and his father, that made her start drinking, and then she just started abuseing her youngest boy at the time, david. then the story goes on about his live and how he grew up. that book was very good.

ReplyDeleteOne book that I thought was excellent was The Pact. What was so special about it was that these four men came alll the way from a poor area tto become doctors. I enjoyed it so much because it inspired me to keep up the hard work so that one day I become sucessful.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books is breaking dawn,it is the four book of twilight its about when bella turns in to a vamper becaues she was dieing after she had her baby that was half human half vamper and her friend jacob who is a half human half wofl falls in love with bella and edwards baby and jacob wants to be with her but bella won't let him. i love this book because it makes me want to kno more and what is going to happen next.

my favorite book i read in the past was stormbreaker. I read it in 7th grade and really enjoyed it. It was about a boy named alex and his father lived on a millatary base. there was a man who at the time was building computers with bombs in them and alexes uncle went out and tryed to stop nim and everyone thought he died. so alex set out ant couldnt stop him and so the man sent the computers out to thousands of schools about to blow them up and then alex shot the man and stopped him from blowing them up.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books I have read is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I enjoyed it so much because it was a great ending to a great series, it has great description in it, and because it's about magic, which is very fun to read. I absolutely love this book, I still think there should be an eight one.

Tithe is about a girl named kaye, kaye is secretly a fairy but she dosnt know that. kaye moved when she was nine. she had three fairy freinds. when she moved back they needed the evil queen to sacrifice her. kaye meets a knight named robin and lots of events happen after that. i like alot though because the writer mixed faires with teenagers.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite book's is "Bud, Not Buddy" i love this book. Its about a little boy back in the sixty's (i think) who goes out to go find his father was plays in a band. It's very intresting, when i read it i dont want to put the book down. I love this book and i would highly recommend it to thoughs who like reading about the past.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book that i have read is Fairest by Gail Carson Levine. Its about a young girl named Aza who says she looks like an oger. But she has an amazing singing voice and where she lives, thats very important. I would highly recomend this book to people who like magic, relationships, kings, queens, princes and castles.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book of all time was first things first by Kurt and Brenda Warner. This book is a autobiography about a football player and how he lives his life it is very intresting it teaches you morals and a lesson. He shares that his whole life isn't football it includes spending tons of time with his family.And he shows that you can still be with your family. He doesn't force his kids into playing football like he does. And I thought that was an amazing lesson it was truly an amazing book!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book that i have ever read is Travel Team. The author is Mike Lupica. This is my favorite book because it grabs my attention and it makes me want to keep reading. I enjoyed this book because it is about basketball and traveling to places for tournaments and such and i understood and connected to what it was saying. I am not a big reader but if i was to read a book this would be the one. I read alot of books and not many of them grabbed my attention like this one did and thats why i like it so much.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is Win-Dixie. In the grade I read Win-Dixie, and it was the best book I have ever read. It was about a girl stopped at the Win-Dixie store to buy some food then all of a sudden a dog ran into the store so she claimed that the dog was hers and she named it Win-Dixie. When I first read it, I couldnt stop reading it. My mom thought that it was great that i love reading that book. The Win-Dixie book made me realize that there are other books in the world that are as good as this so I started reading more books. Thats why Win-Dixie is my favorite book.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is Kissed By An Angel. This is my favorite because the story was really touching. It was about a teenager in high school was murdered and became an angel and had to watch out for his girlfriend to make sure his murderer did not kill her. When his task was completed he had to leave and it was very sad. It made me start crying. That's why Kissed By An angel is my favorite book.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book would definately have to be Absolutely Normal Chaos. this book was very well written by an auther named Sharon Creech. This book is written so that it looked like a summer journal written by a 13 year old girl, Mary Lou. I love this book because i feel i can connect to the character. She thinks she will have a very uneventfull summer but instead she has a crazy summer that noone would expect. Though it is hard to follow, this book, in my opinion, is the best book ever!

So the boy made a deal with him that he could have the for 5 hundred dollors so the boy worked his butt off all summer to get it, and he finally did late the winter.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY. This book is not so much speacial to me its just an enjoyable book. I enjoyed it because i love mysterys and it was a mystery book. So reading the book was fun. Every person i have talked to who have read the book has also loved it an dwe agreed they should make it into a movie it was so exciting
i would have to say my favorite book is marked its about a girl and her best friend and the girl keeps seeing a vampire with the sign of a cresent moon and her friend dosent see him and then he marks her with it meaing she is going to turn into a vampire!!!!

ReplyDeleteA Dog's Life is my favorite book. I like it because it's really challenging for the main character who is a dog and how she was abanoned as a really young puppy. In one part two people found her and her brother and took them home with them. Then the next day the husband didn't want dogs and drove down a highway next to a mall and threw them out the window. Then two ladies that came from the mall found them but took her brother and just left her there because he was cuter than her.
